Evening Ten Results and Report 22nd May

Thanks go to Simon Rendell and the rest of the Cranbrook CC crew for running tonight’s East Devon Evening Ten on the Honiton Club Course.

Weather conditions in Devon  had been decidedly unsettled during the course of the day, with torrential downpours hitting many places, and indeed causing the cancellation of the Open Ten Mile TT on the S4 course this evening; the A38 was awash with rainwater. Luckily the east of the county managed to miss out on biblical downpours, but without doubt the threat of rain kept riders away, resulting in a small field of just ten riders. The strong westerly wind will also have been an off-putting factor – times were on the slow side.

It was a home win for the organising club, with C category veteran Lubos Obornik storming round in 22 minutes 40 seconds. Jimmy Richards of Pure Endurance kept up his run of high placings in the series with runner up spot on 23.51 whilst James Greenaway (EWCC) again went well, with a 24.51 for third.

Next Wednesday there will be no Club Ten as it is the evening of the Exeter Wheelers Open Ten on the Honiton ‘fast’ course. As ever, offers to help as marshalls will be gratefully received.

Evening Ten Report and Results 15th May

The latest East Devon Evening Ten to be held on the Honiton Club Course took place this evening, and saw George Kimber (Spirit) run out winner for the second week in a row. This time George decided he’d ride a TT bike, and thus went even quicker than last week, with his 20:32 being nearly 3 minutes faster than 2nd place rider Jimmy Richards (Pure Endurance) on 23.28. Honiton Spinner Alister Trendell was third at 24.38.

The wind provided some help to riders, being a south-easterly, but with temperatures still lower than expected for mid-May the air was far from being of the ‘float night’ variety. Riders who rode last week, however, saw a slight increase in their speeds and a lowering of their times.

Many thanks to CS Dynamo for organising and ably running the event, with EWCC timekeepers Mike Rowe and Sally Hutter willingly lending their experience and expertise in the timekeeping sector to our CSD friends.

12 riders faced the timekeeper’s 5.4.3.2.1 GO ! at the first East Devon ‘Evening Ten’ of the year on the Honiton Club Course. A gentle southerly wind neither helped nor hindered the riders, and the chilly air made for a not overly fast night.

Elite local roadman George Kimber (Spirit), off at number ten, gobbled up many a rider who started ahead of him, and ran out winner on 21.37. Not far off that time was newcomer to the area Luke Osborne (Banbridge CC), riding his first event in the south-west after a recent move here, on 21.51. Luke is going to be feeling his way into the local TT scene in the weeks ahead; his 3rd place in the Ulster TT Championships and 8th place in the Irish National TT Championships give some idea of his pedigree.

Top Exeter Wheeler on the night was James Greenaway, with a good ride of 26.27.

Thanks go to Exeter Wheelers volunteers Sally Hutter, Mike Rose, Ann Owens, Didier Lebatteux  and Aaron Lawrence for running the event.

The next in the series will take place Wednesday 15th May, when CS Dynamo will be the organisers (thank you CSD).
