The Saturday Social rides are ideal for all club riders who would like to start their weekend with a 20-40 miles ride (mostly on scenic country lanes; rule of thumb: the shorter, the hillier).
Riders under the age of 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian to take part in all club rides.
This ride is ideal for road bike cyclists who already have experience riding solo on main roads and country lanes, and who would like to see if group riding is for them. As a rough guide: If you can ride 25 – 30 miles solo at 13 – 15 mph on rolling main roads, then you will have no problem.
The Saturday Social is a NO DROP ride, aiming at an average pace of 14-16 mph (depending on weather, route, time of year). The group(s) will split roughly by ability level, and each will go at the speed of their slowest rider (minimum 14 mph average).
The Saturday Social finishes by the Exeter quay, around 5 minutes from the start point, with an option to enjoy a post-ride coffee&cake chat.
We do ask that before joining an Exeter Wheelers ride you read our guide to group riding and etiquette.
If you are new to group riding, please make the other riders in your group aware of that and ask any questions you may have around group riding before setting off! Please follow the advice of more experienced club riders en route to keep the group riding safely and tidy together.
If you are planning to come out with us for the first time, or if you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us: . (Please note, as an amateur club run by volunteers it is not always possible to check and answer emails on a daily basis. Don’t worry if it takes a couple of days to get a reply!)
Please bring the following:
- Road bike in good working condition
- (Full) water bottles
- Food (banana, cereal bar etc.)
- Pump and spare inner tube
- Long (and functional) mudguards in wet weather (or when there was wet weather the day(s) before as the lanes are likely to be muddy).
Please note, all riders who attend an Exeter Wheelers ride do so at their own risk.
These are not guided rides. Every rider ought to be able to navigate the respective route of the day. Please download/familiarise yourself with the routes listed below before joining.
The rides will leave at 9 am sharp from the Devon County Council Hall carpark, Topsham Rd, Exeter EX2 4QD.
